How do dental implants work?
Dental implants are a permanent, restorative option for missing teeth, as they provide a stable support system for crowns, bridges, dentures and other replacement teeth. A dental implant is a titanium screw that replaces the root of a lost or missing tooth. They come in many different lengths and widths for all types of restorative applications. Our doctors can surgically place implants into any area of your jaw, but implants require adequate bone structure for placement.
The healing period usually takes about three to six months in order for the implant to fuse with the jaw bone. Once the area has successfully healed, the post can then support a single tooth or replacement teeth (“fixed” implant dentures) or increase stability on a removable denture or partial denture.
The Benefits of Dental Implants
A dental implant adds strength and function to your smile, helps to maintain your facial structure, and improves your ability to eat. It can also greatly increase your self-confidence, as the gaps in your smile are filled, resulting in a natural, restored appearance.
With proper oral hygiene and healthy gums, dental implants can last over 20 years with very few complications. Our dentists provide a range of dental implant options including single tooth restorations (crowns) and multiple tooth restorations (implant bridges).
